OVERVIEW

The Flight Instructor course (FI) prepares you for the role as a flight instructor. Being a Flight Instructor is one of the most rewarding careers you can have in aviation and makes you an even more experienced and proficient pilot along the way.

During the 3-6 months course program, you will learn how to prepare briefings and conduct practical sessions for flight training. The course will prepare you in explaining theoretical concepts and describing flying maneuvers in a variety of ways.

Being a Flight Instructor is a good way to gain experience after you have finished your commercial pilot training, and it gives you the opportunity to refine your pilot skills.

Our instructors are highly qualified and experienced airline pilots. We have one of the highest percentages of airline experience divided amongst our instructors. This is a key factor for ensuring that our programs are up to date, meeting standards and requirements in a changing aviation industry.

COURSE DETAILS

The course starts with theoretical training for approximately 3,5 weeks followed by 30 hours of practical flight training. The duration of the flight training may vary due to weather since the training is conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

After training completion, you will be added to the Stoflight instructor pool.

All training is conducted in English.

Theoretical Training

Length – 125 hrs classroom course

During the theoretical parts of the flight instructor course, we will cover aspects of the instructional techniques and theory, psychology, human performance and limitation during instructions, as well as the structure, presentation and lecture technique.
In addition to solidifying your theoretical knowledge, you will practice your instructional skills and perform briefings in preparation for the practical flight training with both shorter and longer briefings.

Flight Training

Length – 30 hours

During the practical parts of the flight instructor course, we will cover both instructional theory and flight training to enhance, demonstrate and instruct the student during all phases of flight. You will improve your flying skills from the right seat as well as your ability to instruct and fly simultaneously. The flight training is in total 30hrs minimum and 5 of them are to be flown with another flight instructor candidate where they teach each other during flight.

PRE-ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

In order to be eligible for the FI(A) course you need to fulfill all the requirements listed below:

Valid Medical Class 1 is required prior to starting your FI(A) training. Medical Class 1 will be accepted from any EASA country. Do you need more information about obtaining an EASA Medical Class 1? Contact us.
Prior to starting the FI training course, the applicant shall meet the following:

One of the two requirements below:

  • EASA CPL(A)
  • EASA PPL(A) with 200 hours of flight time of which 150 hours PIC and CPL(A) or ATPL(A) theory

Additional requirements:

  • Valid SEP (Land)
  • Legal right to study in Sweden
  • 30 hours of flight time on the aircraft class SE piston, of which at least 5 hrs shall be flown within 6 months before the pre-entry flight test
  • 10 hours of instrument flying (5 hours may have been in a FNPT)
  • 20 hours PIC cross country, with one 300 nm navigation flight containing two full stop landings at two different airports
  • Passed a pre-entry flight test
In order to issue an any EASA rating you will need to obtain a language proficiency level which follows the ICAO standard. The minimum level required to start your training is English level 4 (4 out of 6).

The final date to apply is one month prior to the course start, however we recommend that you apply earlier to secure your slot. If you’re requiring a visa for your studies, the recommendation is to apply three months prior to the course start.
